Longji Rice Terraces Tours — Questions Answered

The scenic-area ticket is CNY 80 for adults aged 18 to 59. It is CNY 40 for over-60s with ID and for students under 18 with a student card, and free from age 65 and for children under 1.2 metres. One ticket covers all four villages and stays valid for three days.

Yes, and for some travellers it is the better answer. Buses run from Guilin Qintan Bus Station through the day, and the gate ticket is CNY 80. A tour buys you the 17 or 23 kilometres past the entrance, someone who knows which path goes where, and a fixed time to be back in Guilin.

No — and the claim turns up often enough to be worth correcting. Longji is a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System, designated by the FAO in February 2018 as the Guangxi Longsheng Longji Terrace System. The UNESCO-inscribed Chinese rice terraces are the Honghe Hani terraces in Yunnan.

Not on the terraces themselves. The paths between the paddies are stone stairways and narrow field bunds, which rule out riding. Cycling in this region belongs to the Yulong River valley near Yangshuo, and several multi-day trips pair the two.

The tours run anyway and the terraces are worth seeing wet — cloud in the valley is half the reason photographers come. Bring a light waterproof and shoes with some grip, because the stone steps are slick. If the forecast is bad enough to change your mind, every tour here refunds in full up to 24 hours ahead.

There are toilets at the village gates, at the main viewpoints and in the restaurants and guesthouses, so you are rarely more than half an hour from one. Carry tissue, which is not always provided.
