Our guide offered to take us to the Dazhai side instead of the usual stop. It was quieter and the landscape was more dramatic, and we took the cable car up and walked an easy hour back down. A peaceful afternoon.

Worth seeing, but it is a long way and the traffic was heavy. The long-hair performance was not included in what we paid and we did not think it was worth the extra. The terraces themselves were another matter.

The rice had already been harvested when we came, and the reflections in the flooded fields were still worth the trip. Our guide was patient and told us a lot about Zhuang customs. Making oil tea at a farmhouse was the best part of the day.

Excellent English and excellent driving. The operator arranged a Yangshuo drop-off for us at the end for a small extra fee, which made the rest of our planning much easier. Warmly recommended for the rice paddies and the region.

I enjoyed the hike and our guide was excellent. One caution: in my view this is not a walk for everyone, because it is strenuous, and I think that could be clearer in the description. We are a young couple and had no trouble with it.
